  1. Now if we could get our weekly club net to have more than just check-ins and a couple of shack reports, that would be great. I was net control last week and put out a question but only got 3 replies. Seems that most of the folks checking in only want to hear the ARRL news and that is it. I am told that the net has grown in the past year or two, but I would like to see it become more interactive. Any thoughts? 73 Bob KD9TGU
  2. Not sure I can really answer this question as I am new and have an Icom 7100, but used an Icom 7300 at Field Day. I like the comfort of the 7100, but the 7300's waterfall was great. So there you have a non answer answer.
  3. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but as a new ham (licensed in August of 2021) I have not been thru a full solar cycle. Is it normal at this point in the cycle to have this many CMEs? 20 meters on Sunday afternoon was pretty noisy and a lot of fading. Anyone else notice this? Or is time to take on the HOA and install a tower? 73 Bob KD9TGU
  4. I am just starting to study for the Extra Exam. I hope to have it before next field day, if not sooner.
  5. We were lucky to have enough operators from the club to run 3A for the whole 24 hours. I was on the air for two hours and then a 4 hour break. It was great. Only got 90 minutes of sleep, but I would not trade sleep for the experience and the opportunity to really get to know the other club members (I have only been with the club since November 2021). We ran off a generator and that worked well. We did have to go off the air for a couple of hours due to a rather intense electrical storm. We were able to hook the antennas back up and continued making contacts. We had 4 antennas up. A Delta Loop, EFHW, An OCF Dipole, and a NVIS. That worked out well. All in All a good day.

Darn. I thought this was Basements on The Air. LOL Could be a lot of activators if it was.
  7. For me the love of it comes from my Dad and I doing AM DX during those cold winter nights, then progressing to SWL. Now it is the ability to have my own station and make contacts with a simple wire antenna. To me that is a little magical. 73 Bob
  8. I happens on the HF bands only. VHF and UHF are no problem. They are wall mounted dimmers. They are 3 way devices controlling LED fixtures. The total number of bulbs is 12, so it could be expensive. Is a common mode choke going to help any? There is no room in the box to put a ferrite on the wiring. When I said flicker, it means that the lights go off completely when transmitting, and then come back on when I un-key. I may try changing the dimmers with something that is more mechanical than electronic.
  9. I am with the Michiana Amateur Radio Club.
  10. This was my first Field Day. It was a good time. Made some contacts, food was good. The most important thing was getting to know the members of the club. Was able to spend time talking with them, learning from them. All in All I am looking forward to Winter Field Day.
  11. I live in a HOA neighborhood. As a result, the can be no exterior antenna. The solution was an OCF Dipole in the attic. When transmitting on the HF bands the lights that are connected to electronic dimmers will flash on and off, and the electronic thermostat to change program and settings. I have tried using a clamshell choke on the thermostat wires to no effect. I have not tied that on the dimmer wiring. Is this the best way to go, or should I be looking at putting a choke at the feed point of the antenna? Any help would be appreciated. 73 Bob KD9TGU
  12. Thanks Jim. It is good to be here. 73
