I have done a lot of design and building from scratch. My engineering degree helps. I have some contesting experience, including Field Day. I write research papers and a medical research blog. I am building my skills with Parks On The Air (POTA).

My specialty is guying and suspending antennas and towers. Starting with wire antennas, through smaller and temporary masts to large towers with many antennas. In 2007 I founded the brand Mastrant (synthetic ropes optimized for guying and many accessories).

Help with station building, remote HF operation, DMR, and advice on buying used equipment
While I do not consider myself to be an expert in anything, I have been licensed for 65 years. In that time, I've done a little of most things that are common to most hams. I managed to avoid some of the more specialized modes and odds and ends. As you can imagine, my interests came and went, and came back again. I sold most of the equipment from my 10-acre radio QTH in Frederick and have just a small HF station which I do not use.
DMR is my current interest as I think it's ideal for those who want to enjoy talking to hams around the world without the expense, huge antennas, and higher class license. I help newbies get on the air quickly and easily.

My antenna focus is on wire antennas. I am also well versed in the preparation of expeditions, notably in extreme environments such as the arctic, deserts, and jungles. I also have extensive experience in emergency deployments and command and control.
