Forum Topic, “An Introvert in an Otherwise Extrovert’s Hobby: Musings of a Self-Identified Ham-Introvert”: Have you ever noticed that some people just sit back and listen to conversations, and if they enter into the conversations their single-word responses drive the extroverts in the crowd crazy? This session will describe the ham radio traits of introverts and extroverts and how they interact in the ham radio hobby in different ways. Venue: Thoreau Middle School, Time: 7:00-7:30 pm. Listen live here.
Main Presentation, “All you would want to know about SKYWARN”: Join Paul, N4PSS as he updates us about the SKYWARN program in National Capital Region (NCR). Paul is the Assistant Coordinator for Outreach and Training in the NCR SKYWARN Support Group, and participates as a SKYWARN Desk Operator at the National Weather Service Forecast office in Sterling, VA and Net Control when SKYWARN is activated. The mission of SKYWARN is to collect reports of localized severe weather. These reports are used to aid forecasters in issuing and verifying severe weather watches and warnings and to improve the forecasting and warning processes and the tools used to collect meteorological data. Reports are also used by local emergency managers and public safety organizations. Venue: Thoreau Middle School, Time: 7:30-9:00 pm. Listen live here.
